KINGMAN - John Herrero (Kingman Academy High, 2013) recorded four tackles and Northern Arizona (6-3, 4-2) upset No. 4-ranked Eastern Washington (6-3, 5-1) in the Big Sky Conference Saturday in Washington, 52-30. It was the first home loss in the regular season for the Eagles since 2011, which dropped EW to No. 10.
The win keeps NAU tied for third place in the Big Sky, and the Lumberjacks jumped to No. 25 in the FCS Coaches Poll.
Herrero now has 29 tackles on the season, including three for losses and a sack. He has three quarterback hits and has broken up a pass.
NAU hosts Sacramento State (2-7, 1-5) in its final home game of the regular season as the Lumberjacks stay in the hunt for a playoff spot. The FCS takes 24 teams for the postseason.
Kickoff is at 2 p.m. Saturday in Flagstaff.
Casson, Dolphins win in comeback
Natalie Casson (Kingman High, 2013) recorded 14 kills, 12 digs, and served up an ace as LeMoyne College (N.Y.) came from behind at Merrimack (Mass.) to beat the Warriors Friday 17-25, 25-23, 25-12, 25-16.
The win put LeMoyne (16-7, 7-4) in fourth place in the Northeast 10 Conference and ranked No. 9 in the NCAA D-II East Region.
Casson leads the Dolphins with 260 kills for the season and is second on the team with 232 digs.
