Letter: Don't trust computers for everything

For the past few years you would see a few empty shelves in the store. It seems to be getting worse. A few weeks ago my wife and I were shopping at a well-known craft store. She was looking for a certain article. The clerk said that they ran out. I asked the lady why they wait until they run out then order more. She explained that it's all done at the cash register by a computer. I thought, "how lame." Then they need to reprogram the computer so when it gets down to six they will get more on order.

I wonder if the store manager waits until his car runs out of gas before he or she fills it up?

I spent 43 years in the newspaper and printing industry. The few places that I worked at never ran out of ink or newsprint before they ordered more.
