Prep Roundup: Kingman baseball, Academy golf

KINGMAN - While Coconino (3-8) was scoring 14 runs on 14 base hits Monday in Flagstaff, Kingman could only muster five hits for one run in the Panthers' non-section win, 14-1.

Colton Stanley doubled for Kingman (2-8, 1-1), and Rilee Araya, Garrett Stephens, Luke Ness and Anthony Pinto each had a single. Ness' single in the second inning drove in Pinto.

Kingman hosted Chino Valley (6-8, 2-0) in a Division III, Section V contest Tuesday. Results were not available by deadline.

Kingman takes on Lake Havasu (5-6, 1-1) in Section V at 4 p.m. Thursday in Lake Havasu City.

Tigers fifth after Day 1

KINGMAN - Shooting a 62-over-par 350, the Kingman Academy Tigers sat in fifth-place after Day 1 at the 10-team two-day River Valley Invitational golf tournament played on the 6,435 yard par-72 Mojave Resort Golf Club in Laughlin, Nev., Monday.

Sedona Red Rock led the field at 325.

Matt Schmitt of Brawley, Calif., held the first-day lead by shooting a 2-over-par 74.

Raphael Choi led the way for the Tigers. Choi finished tied for sixth with an 81. Matthew Suh (86), Tristen Pitts (88), and Matthew Timmerman (95) rounded out the scoring for the Academy.

The tournament wrapped up Tuesday. Results were not available by deadline.

Academy hosts Northland Prep and Parker at 2 p.m. today at Cerbat Cliffs Golf Course.

The Tigers are currently ranked No. 18 in the 46-team Division III.
