Elmer Ray Fickas Jr., 62, of Kingman passed away on July 28, 2016. He was born the oldest of five boys to father Elmer Ray Fickas Sr. and mother Blanche Eileen Fickas (Hamrick) on July 22, 1954 in Springfield, Ill. Graduating from Girard High School in 1973, he later served proudly in the US Air Force and the Illinois Air National Guard.
Elmer, known to his friends as Red, relocated with his newlywed wife Cheryl to Kingman in 1997. Transferring with Tucker Housewares, he later found a place with Mertens Heavy Equipment where he has worked for the last seven years.
Red was an avid golfer, Chicago Bears and NASCAR fan. The last few years Red had mastered his grilling hams and they were in high demand by all of his friends.
Red was preceded in death by his father and brother Richard. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Cheryl Fickas, his mother, Blanche Fickas, of Tucson, AZ, three brothers Ed (Bonnie) of Tucson, Fred (Gayle) of Girard, Ill. and George (Gail) of Huntley, Ill. along with their families. Red is also survived by two sons Eric (Heather) Fickas, Ryan (Candi) Powell and four daughters Ellen (Matt) Donaldson, Tara Smedly, Kayla (Audie) Boudreaux and Megan Powell.
Papa Red was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren and three step grandchildren.
