KINGMAN – Mohave County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue units responded to a missing ATV operator in the Hualapai Mountains Monday night.

A woman reported her husband, Mark Matt, 62, of Lake Havasu City, had not returned from traveling in their single seat UTV Razor. She said Matt left around 3:30 p.m.

Search and Rescue units were dispatched at approximately 8:30 p.m.

An investigation determined Matt may have taken a trail off of Hualapai Mountain Road near Milepost 5. Searchers located tire tracks and at about 11:40 p.m., Matt was located pinned underneath his ATV, which had rolled off a 200-foot cliff.

A helicopter was not available due to weather, so rescue teams conducted a rope rescue on slippery surfaces in the pouring rain and hoisted Matt back onto the trail. He suffered several severe lacerations to his face and head and may have broken ribs and sustained head and neck injuries.
