KINGMAN – Scottsdale Cactus Shadows showed up with intense defensive pressure and it was more than enough to put Lee Williams in a bind and a 59-31 4A Conference win Wednesday at LWHS.
Cactus Shadows (2-0) and the Lady Volunteers (2-1) both started slow, but it was the Falcons that found their rhythm first and went up 11-0 before Lee Williams’ Madison McGlathery put in a bucket from under the basket. McGlathery finished with four points, all in the first quarter.
The Falcons led 37-16 at the half after leading 20-6 at the end of the first quarter, as they continued to cause Lee Williams problems by being busy defensively. On the other end of the floor, the Lady Vols had issues with Cactus Shadows’ Caitlin Bickle, a 6-0 junior. She scored 14 of her game-high 17 points in the opening half.
“We gave up the 37 first-half points, but we played much better in the second half and only gave up 22,” said LWHS coach Jerry Arave.
Sadie Snay led Lee Williams with six points, and Madi Arave finished with five. Simari Satoafaiga and Chania Scott each scored four, Kristen Finch had three, Kaylee Bond and Cassidy Torrey each tallied two, and Siava Allen chipped in one.
Lee Williams next plays at the River Valley Shootout today and Saturday in Mohave Valley. The Lady Vols open the tournament with Mohave (1-1).
