KINGMAN - The first round of soccer awards for local players was released Thursday by the Colorado River Region, and Lee Williams had six players earn region honors and Kingman had five.
Lee Williams boys soccer coach Ray Tapia was selected as the Colorado River Region Coach of the Year. The Vols went 10-5-2 and were the No. 15 seed for the AIA Division IV State Championship tournament.
"It helps that I was blessed with a good group of young men," Tapia said. "We've all grown a lot together over the past four years."
This was Tapia's fourth and final year at Lee Williams. He plans on moving to Colorado this month.
"I want to say congratulations to Ray," said KHS boys soccer coach Tony Schlosser. "He did an awesome job this year with his team, from winning the river tournament and for getting into state. Lee Williams will definitely miss him, and I'm happy I got to coach against him."
Lee Williams' junior defender Carlos Castaneda and senior defender Peyton Cardiff were selected to the CRR first team. Senior midfielder Michael Mendola and sophomore defender Aiden Cordes were named to the second team, and senior defenders Trey Fitzsimmons and Brandon Sahawneh were honorable mention choices.
For Kingman, junior striker Chandler Baca and junior defender Manuel Tadeo earned first team accolades. Baca had 30 goals and six assists this season, and Tadeo finished with four goals and nine assists.
Junior midfielders Derek Brown and Alonzo Garcia were selected to the second team. Brown had 11 goals and 13 assists, and Garcia ended the year with four goals and six assists.
