KINGMAN - Mohave County Fairgrounds Manager James Guillot on Wednesday said the board of directors has not discussed whether the fairgrounds could be a venue for a Fourth of July fireworks show.
Guillot on the fairgrounds' Facebook page, in response to the City Council's tentative decision to forgo a fireworks show this summer in favor of a block party downtown, said the board members never said the fairgrounds wouldn't play host.
When asked about it, Guillot said the board has neither endorsed nor rejected the idea.
"I think they (someone with the city) might have talked to one of the directors, who told them they personally would not support a fireworks show, but the board has not formally discussed the issue," said Guillot.
Guillot also said the board could discuss the issue at a future meeting, and that he had no idea where directors stand on the issue.
"I can't speak for the board," he said.
City Manager John Dougherty has placed an action item on Tuesday's City Council agenda to revisit the issue, and he has also directed staff to contact the fair board "as rumor has it that they have softened their stance."
