Bulldogs dominate capturing CRR wrestling championship

Kingman, five wrestlers undefeated in title run

KINGMAN - Back-to-back is the cry from the Kingman High wrestling room as the Bulldogs won their second consecutive Colorado River Region championship. Kingman took the title by going unbeaten at 5-0 Wednesday at Lake Havasu.

It was an excellent way for the Bulldogs to prepare for the Division III, Section I tournament this Friday and Saturday in Peoria. The top four wrestlers in each weight class at the 15-team sectional advance on to the D-III state tournament.

Kingman won the CRR championship by beating River Valley (59-18), Parker (57-21), Mohave (60-24), Lake Havasu (46-35), and Lee Williams (60-18).

Along the way, the Bulldogs had five wrestlers who went 5-0 to propel Kingman to first place. Humberto Ayala (220/285), Christian Barrios (113), Conner Mahlmeister (195), Tanner Mahlmeister (160), and Mason Wester (145) each were unbeaten. Ramon Chavez (138), Juan Lozano (120), Julian Nelson (170), Barbara Ramirez (106), Danny Taylor (152), and Dakota Tubbs (132) each went 4-1.

Lee Williams finished the tournament 2-3 with wins over Parker and River Valley. The Volunteers had Kip Penny (285), Tiberius Williams (182), and Nic Verville (126) each go 5-0 for the tournament.

"KHS was the clear regional champs," said LWHS wrestling coach Dan Ondrejka. "They wrestled hard, and I'm very happy for them."
