KINGMAN - Eighteen-year Mohave County Sheriff's veteran Ed Trafecany can't remember a major holiday weekend that didn't have at least one boat accident.

Until now.

Trafecany, a sergeant in the sheriff's waterways unit, said the July 4 weekend was busy, but not as busy as years past.

And while there were no accidents, the heavy law enforcement presence featured officers from the MCSO, San Bernardino, Calif. Sheriff's Office, Arizona Game and Fish, Lake Havasu City Police and the U.S. Coast Guard.

Over the weekend, deputies alone made eight operating under the influence arrests, two that were felonies. Twenty safety citations were issued and 48 safety warnings were delivered.

Deputies responded to one disturbance, 17 boater assists, seven agency assists and one medical assist.
