GOLDEN VALLEY - Golden Valley Fire District Capt. Dave Cunningham sprays water on the smoldering remains of a fire that occurred in the 6500 block of Burro Road as firefighters assigned to his shift spread the mulch to ensure that there are no burning ambers remaining.

The firefighters responded to the brush fire in a yard of the home just before 1 p.m. Wednesday, and when they arrived, they deployed their hoses, extinguished the blaze and were able to keep the fire from spreading to structures on the property.

According to fire district personnel, the homeowner said he was using an electric grinder on the tongue of a trailer when the sparks from the grinder ignited the mulch area on the opposite side of the dirt driveway.
