Letter: Trump support baffling

I truly have to wonder exactly what attracts supporters to back Donald Trump. Is it his sexist demeaning of women? Is it his praise for a Russian leader? How about his mockery of a disabled reporter, or the insults he has hurled toward just about everyone, including those in his own party? Perhaps it’s because he believes he knows more about ISIS than our generals? I listened, for over one year, to Trump tell the world how horrible the United States is. I’ve listened to him put down our “depleted” military and call those suffering from PTSD “weak.” I heard him, repeatedly, insult a Gold Star family without ever offering them an apology. Then I heard him wanting to ban Muslims from entering our country, and throwing out all 11 million illegal immigrants. He calls Hispanics rapists and murderers, Muslims terrorists, blacks, well, they just all live in the gutter and get shot, have no education, no jobs, no nothing. Donald Trump asked them, “What have you got to lose?” Well, sir, with you as president, I would say that we all have a lot to lose.

Then you declared you may not concede the election, if you lost. Never before, in the history of our great nation, has one person done so much to tear this country apart, pitting Americans against Americans. Donald Trump’s message of a “rigged” election, rigged media, rigged everything, is because he simply cannot believe that he is losing … especially to a woman.

So please, someone, tell me what you love most about Trump. I don’t understand it. Trump supporters are threatening violence if he loses. Really, people? We are all Americans. Let’s act like it, and show our support for whoever wins. That is the American way.

Watching Trump rallies is like watching a really bad Vaudeville act. I keep waiting for that hook to come out and drag him off the stage. But the GOP has allowed Trump to continue with his asinine rhetoric and insults, and to continue to damage our country, our pride, and our reputation in the world. Shame on all of them for allowing this to happen.
