I live in Valle Vista, where the county maintains the streets.
I doubt if anyone in Mohave County is happy with the state of road maintenance, not that the county is always to blame, given the state’s “repurposing” of funds. However, the county’s recent blacktopping of several streets (Cerro, Skull and its various offshoots) in Valle Vista seems highly questionable and wasteful.
We have lived here 20 years and I can’t remember the last time my street had a layer of asphalt applied, if ever. I think we’ve had our beloved chip seal several times.
My issue with blacktopping these streets is that there are no houses on them, there have never been houses on them, and given the state of construction out here, probably never will be. Nor are any of the streets through streets, connectors, or the like.
I’m sure there are hundreds of miles of county roads that cry out for blacktop far more than these isolated, seldom-used roads. C’mon, Mohave County – what gives and who benefits?
