Letter: A history lesson on the Confederacy

Confederate Krusaders – Once again, the kind, caring group of people known as the Confederate Krusaders have been erroneously slandered and accused of disrespecting the veterans.

The Confederate Krusaders were in the Veterans Day Parade in downtown Kingman Nov. 12. We had POW/MIA, Don’t Tread On Me, USA and Confederate flags flying on our vehicles.

We very well could have been the most supportive group in the parade, as we represented many eras of veterans.

Who is the Confederacy that fought against the United States? The Civil War was American soldiers fighting against American soldiers – just on different sides.

But when all was said and done, th-eir blood is what united them as one nation. The North and South both had slaves at that time, but since then slavery has been abolished. None of us have slaves and the only preservation of “evil slavery” is in the minds of those who accuse other of being racist, hateful and unsupportive of our American heritage and our veterans.

The only shame here is on those who don’t understand American history and are quick to judge others.

Most of the spectators at the parade were cheering and clapping and giving us a thumbs up as we paraded by them. We, as a group, saw and heard nothing but support for our group. In spite of one person’s slanderous opinion – and that’s all it is – we will prevail and continue to help and provide great service to our community!
