Kingman Ancient Iron dominates at world powerlifting tourney

KINGMAN – Five weightlifters representing Kingman Ancient Iron showed off the city’s strength with a World Team Championship at the AAU World Powerlifting championships Sept. 23-25 in Las Vegas.

John Lopez, 80, won his age divisions’ bench press with a world-record lift of 203.9 pounds and was recognized with the Best Lifter Award.

Jerry Homer Sr., 76, was first in bench setting a world record at 265 pounds.

Charley Jones, 67 set a world record in bench, lifting 319 pounds.

Jerry Homer Jr., 54, won three events and set one world record. He won the bench at 276 pounds, the deadlift at 468, and his world record came in the squat, lifting 490 pounds.
