MEADVIEW – A prospecting trip into the desert cost a man his life Friday. Gilbert Melton Dunn, 81, of Meadview, died in an all-terrain vehicle accident Friday, the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Dunn and a friend were riding their ATVs in the desert area southeast of Meadview looking for areas to prospect for gold shortly before 1 p.m. when the accident occurred.

Investigators have determined that while Dunn was riding up a hill that had a 70 percent incline, the front end came off the ground.

The ATV rolled front over back down the hill approximately 100 feet. The ATV came to a rest on top of Dunn.

Mohave County Search and Rescue volunteers assisted in recovering the body.
