KINGMAN – A Kingman man was charged with arson and other crimes following a bizarre incident that occurred at a Bank Street church early Friday morning.

Dwayne Dean Shawhan, 44, allegedly gained access to an enclosed trailer at the church in the 3700 block of Bank Street and set fire to its contents, according to Kingman Police spokeswoman Jennifer Sochocki.

Shawhan was reportedly lying on the ground next to the fire when police arrived at about 2:30 a.m.

They thought they were responding to a man causing a disturbance by banging on the trailer.

A record check showed Shawhan had a misdemeanor warrant for his arrest and he was taken into custody.

He also was charged with arson and criminal damage and remains in the Mohave County jail.
