The Lee Williams High School chess team took first place at the Region I Team Tournament Oct. 7-8 in Flagstaff. The Volunteers went 5-0 to earn the win against seven other teams with Nick Gross and Brian McKenzie wining Best Board medals. Lee Williams is in first place overall in Region I heading into the final Region I team tournament of the season, hosted by Lee Williams Friday and Saturday. A top three finish will put the Vols into the State Team Championship tournament Nov. 4-5 in Flagstaff.
