Kingman boys golf takes third

Rough Thursday for area volleyball squads

KINGMAN – The Kingman Bulldogs boys golf team wrapped up its 2016 season by finishing in third place in a five-team match played Thursday at the London Bridge Golf Club in Lake Havasu City.

Havasu won the event with a 17-over par 170. Mohave (192) was second, Kingman (198) third, MALC (202) fourth and Yuma Cibola (206) finished fifth.

Hayden Tanner led the Bulldogs with an 11-over 47, finishing in ninth place. Matthew Mendez and Landin Jones were two strokes behind with 49s, and Derek Brown rounded out the scoring with a 52. Britton Ogle shot a non-team score of 61.

Kingman, a group with little experience on the course, finished the season rated No. 46 out of 72 teams in Division II.

VOLLEYBALL

Three squads came to visit the three Kingman teams and all left town with three sets to none wins Thursday.

Prescott (14-1, 10-1 4A Grand Canyon,) ranked No. 3 in the 4A Conference, shut out Lee Williams (7-10, 1-9), 25-8, 25-20, 25-14.

The volleyball season ends next week, and the Lady Volunteers visit Bradshaw Mountain Tuesday and then host Cottonwood Mingus in the season finale at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Tonopah Valley (11-4, 6-2 2A West) blanked Kingman Academy (6-10, 2-6). The Lady Tigers play at Bullhead City MALC Tuesday, and then host No. 12 Parker (13-2, 7-1) at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Chino Valley came and shut out Kingman (0-16, 0-8 3A West). The Lady Bulldogs are at Wickenburg Tuesday, and finish the season hosting River Valley (1-15, 1-7) at 6 p.m. Thursday.

River Valley’s only win came against the Lady Bulldogs in Mohave Valley on Oct. 11 in a three-set sweep.
