Lady Volunteers golf sits at No. 17

KINGMAN – After Lee Williams girls golf defeated Peoria by 51 strokes Tuesday at Sun City Country Club, the Lady Volunteers are rated No. 17, two spots from a return trip to the Division II state tournament. Vail Cienega is currently 15th with a 58.497 rating. The Lady Vols’ rating is 62.557.

Paige Lucero led the way for Lee Williams in the win over Peoria (191-242). Lucero was medalist, shooting an 8-over par 44, and won by three strokes. Teammate Sarah White took second with a 47, Kadence Sterling 49 and Kaylee Moore finished with a 51.


Lee Williams third

At El Rio Country Club in Mohave Valley, Lee Williams came in third out of four teams Tuesday. Bullhead City MALC (183) won the event with Mohave (184) one stroke behind. The Vols shot 193 and Prescott Valley Bradshaw Mountain (210) was fourth.

MALC’s Zack Neal was medalist, shooting an even par 36. Lee Williams’ Brandon Carver (43) was fifth, followed by Cole Morton (45), Wyatt Talk (49) and Jacob Cossio (56).

Bulldogs fourth

At Ironwood Golf Course in Anthem, Kingman came in fourth behind event winner Anthem Prep (173). Mingus (188) took second, and Shadow Mountain (198) was third.

Shadow Mountain’s Davis Campbell was medalist with a 1-over par 37. Hayden Tanner led Kingman with a 52. Matthew Mendez shot 55, Britton Ogle and Derek Brown each had a 59.


Lee Williams splits

The 4A No. 24 ranked Lady Volunteers earned win Monday over Kingman but then fell to Mohave in a Grand Canyon Region match at LWHS Tuesday.

Lee (5-3, 0-3) beat the Lady Bulldogs 25-5, 25-16, 23-25, 25-2. Sadie Snay had 19 assists and nine digs in the win. Holly McFadyen and Tori Logan each had eight kills, Lorelei Fernandez served up seven aces, and Madi Arave dug up nine balls.

In the 22-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-23 loss to Mohave, Snay led with six kills, 13 digs and 23 assists. Chania Scott added six kills, and McFadyen had five aces.

Lee Williams tried to move up the rankings at No. 23 Estrella Foothills Thursday. Results were not available by deadline. The Lady Vols next play at No. 1 Prescott Tuesday.

Academy wins two

The Lady Tigers secured two wins this week by sweeping River Valley (25-18, 25-7, 25-16) and Kingman. Kingman Academy (4-3 2A West) is currently ranked No. 37.

Breezy Weber led the Lady Tigers in the win over River Valley with nine kills and six aces. Isabel Anderson had eight kills and was 11-for-12 in serve/receive. Aspen Jackson dug up seven, and Shaunti Short had 18 assists.

Kingman Academy next plays at No. 18 Welton Antelope to open its 2A West schedule Tuesday, and then hosts No. 5 Trivium Prep Thursday.
