Officer shot, wounded; alleged assailant is dead

A Kingman Police officer shot and killed a man at a Miami Avenue home, but not before he was shot and wounded.

KINGMAN - Kingman police officers and firefighters responded en masse to a home on Miami Avenue a short while ago after a Kingman Police officer and an unidentified man on Miami Avenue exchanged gunfire this morning.

The man was killed, but not before he allegedly shot and wounded the officer.

Deputy Chief Rusty Cooper said the officer sustained a "serious" wound and was taken to the hospital.

What precipitated the gunfight is not yet known.

KPD asks the public to avoid the scene

The incident began at approximately 9:45 am.

According to KPD spokeswoman Jennifer Sochocki, investigators with the Bullhead City Police Department will investigate the incident. More information from that agency is expected later this afternoon.

No further details are available as the scene remains active.
