Do you know what your local United Way does for the Kingman community?
River Cities United Way is a locally run 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that advances the common good by creating opportunities for a better life for all within Mohave and La Paz counties, Laughlin, Nevada and Needles, California. Our focus is on education, financial stability and health – the building blocks for a good quality of life. United Way recruits people and organizations that bring the passion, expertise and resources needed to get things done.
As of 2015, River Cities United Way is part of a national network of approximately 1,200 United Way agencies, each of which is totally independent in both operation and control. Originally organized to coordinate fundraising activities among local charities, the role of United Way agencies has expanded over the years. It is now a leader in helping to create partnerships among organizations, to identify the gaps in essential services within the community, and to actively seek ways to fill those gaps and improve the lives of children, families and seniors throughout the community.
River Cities United Way raises funds to invest in other nonprofit agencies within the service area. It provides no social services itself and keeps no money beyond what is required for administration. Although our service area covers all of Mohave County, the money that is raised in Kingman goes into the Kingman Community Fund and is used to help fund agencies and programs right here in Kingman. Some of the agencies that we provide funding include Kingman Area Food Bank, Kingman Aid to Abused People, Boys & Girls Club of Kingman, Cornerstone Mission and Diana’s Faith House, Jerry Ambrose Veterans Council, the Salvation Army and many more. For convenience, there is a Kingman office located at 2202 Hualapai Mountain Rd, Ste 203 (inside the Mohave State Bank building). Kingman Area Manager, Dawn Darby, is a native of Kingman and is delighted to be able to help the community in which she was raised.
There are many volunteer opportunities available within our organization. Our Advisory Committee consists of volunteers from right here in the Kingman community that bring a high level of business acumen to our organization and meet regularly to ensure that every dollar in Kingman contributed to River Cities United Way is spent wisely, efficiently and is properly accounted for. Our Community Impact Committee is a great group of volunteers who bring their knowledge and expertise to determine ways that we can make an impact on the Kingman community. In addition to these committees we have hundreds of volunteers each year participate in our community projects and fundraisers. We invite you to be a part of the change. You can give, you can advocate and you can volunteer. That's what it means to LIVE UNITED.
