Kingman Police: 3 arrested on child abuse charges

KINGMAN – The kids were loose but the adults found themselves in time out Wednesday.

Kingman Police arrested Fabian Braulio Acuna, 18, of Kingman, on felony misconduct involving weapons and child abuse. Also arrested were Shaelee Marie Matthews and Jaimie Leigh Nalley, both 25, of Kingman, each on a felony charge of child abuse.

According to KPD spokeswoman Jennifer Sochocki, the arrests happened at a home in the 2700 block of Golf Drive after police responded to a welfare check call about two 2-year old’s seen outside the home with no adult present. Officers arrived to find one child in the front yard and the other walking from the back yard. Officers safely removed and secured the children with Department of Child Safety.

An officer reportedly saw Acuna crawling out of the home through a window and holding a firearm. The officer ordered Acuna to drop the gun, which he did, and took him into custody. He was found to be a prohibited possessor and was booked into the Mohave County jail.

Matthews and Nalley, the mothers, exited the home and were taken into custody without incident.

The adults reportedly told conflicting stories as to why the children were unattended, but ultimately said they fell asleep. Alcohol or drugs were not involved.
