TOPOCK – The Mohave County Attorney’s Office is investigating the case of a man who was found naked and shot in the face near a home in Topock Monday.
According to sheriff’s spokeswoman Trish Carter, Joshua Daniel Reza, 25, of Needles, California was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center after being found by Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies while assisting BNSF police in reference to a naked man jumping off a train in the Topock area.
At about 3 p.m., deputies were in transit when they were redirected to a call at a home in the 7900 block of Regal Road, roughly a mile from the railroad tracks, in reference to a man who had been shot. As deputies neared the home, they found and detained a naked man covered in blood stumbling westbound on Regal Road.
Deputies went to the Topock home and talked to the residents, a 72-year-old woman and her 86-year-old boyfriend.
The woman said Reza reportedly walked up to her while the power was out and her boyfriend was down the road checking an electrical box.
She told deputies she didn’t recognize the naked man and started screaming for him to leave. The man never spoke while walking toward her. He then stopped to stare at her and ignored her commands to get off the property.
The boyfriend returned with a gun. Reza allegedly started walking toward them when the boyfriend fired two to three warning shots into the air.
The man said Reza continued walking toward them. He fired another round, which struck Reza in the face.
The boyfriend said that the man also broke the water pipes near their electrical box.
Reza is in fair condition at Sunrise Hospital.
Nobody is in custody at this time and a .22 caliber revolver was taken and placed in evidence pending the Mohave County Attorney’s Office review.
