GOLDEN VALLEY – Dave Cunningham has been hired as interim fire chief of the Golden Valley Fire District and will begin his new job April 1, GVFD spokesman Butch Meriwether said.
Cunningham, a captain and 23-year veteran of the fire district, takes over for Jack Yeager, who resigned as interim chief to take a job as building and life safety inspector for Kingman Fire Department.
Paul Gorham, chairman of GVFD board of directors, said Cunningham is a “dedicated and capable professional who has earned the respect and support of his fellow firefighters.”
Cunningham started as a volunteer with Golden Valley Fire District in 1986 while he was in high school. After serving in the U.S. Army, he wanted to return to working for the fire department.
He volunteered with GVFD again in 1992 and attended the fire academy in 1993. A couple years later, he was hired full-time with the district and moved through the ranks, becoming a captain in 2003.
He has a two-year degree in fire science and paramedics.
“I look forward to working with the GVFD board of directors and the community,” Cunningham said.
