PHOENIX – Teachers will be able to apply for renewal of their certificates from the comfort of home with the new educator portal from the Arizona Department of Education.
The new AzEDCert online portal allows teachers who are within six months of having their certificates expire, as well as those whose certifications have lapsed within the past year, to apply online and avoid the trip to Phoenix to renew their certifications.
More than 15,000 teachers and administrators in Arizona would be eligible to use the new system. They can also view their certification information through the online portal.
“We should do whatever we can to simplify the administrative processes of becoming an educator, while keeping our standards for educators as high as possible,” Superintendent of Public Instruction Diane Douglas said in a prepared statement.
The AzEDCert portal system will send e-mail reminders to educators who are eligible to renew prior to their certificates expiring, as well as provide e-mail alerts that update them on the status of their application throughout the process.
The cost for renewals will remain at $20 per certificate, but a $2 online convenience fee will be added for applications on the portal. The online system will not only add convenience for educators applying for renewal, but also increases efficiency in processing applications.
Arizona Department of Education will continue to accept certification applications in person and by mail.
