President Richard Nixon in 1969 participating in a classic American tradition: pardoning a turkey. The tradition dates back to President Harry Truman in 1947, but back then the turkey presented was nearly always eaten. It wasn’t until George H.W. Bush in 1989 that a yearly turkey pardon was implemented. (Courtesy)
