2017 Very Merry Parade Of Lights

Photos by Aaron Ricca KINGMAN – Whatever the reason for the season, hundreds – if not thousands – of people lined the streets to watch the 22nd Very Merry Parade of Lights on Beale Street Saturday night. Next to downtown’s flourishing dining, drinking and shopping environment, a continuous strain of unexplainably warm weather is a good bet on a contributing factor for the high turnout. December’s full moon provided a bit of ambient light to accompany the 50 floats, plus or minus a few stragglers and parade-bombers in between. The Kingman Downtown Merchants Association took the lead in making sure the stream of lights, cars, music and whatever else found its way into the Yuletide convoy kept the audience riveted. Many of the spectators came dressed in clothes ready to handle last year’s frigid temperatures. Most peeled off their winter jackets within minutes of finding a great spot to wave at Santa and get pelted with candy. A few hundred other folks headed a block back from Beale Street to City Hall for the 10th Annual Christmas Tree lighting. They were greeted with hot chocolate, Christmas music and, of course, Santa and Mrs. Claus. Following are the winners from the Very Merry Parade of Lights on Saturday: Best of Show: Kingman Animal Hospital Best Lighted Float: Kingman Boys and Girls Club Best Theme: Kingman Boys and Girls Club Best Lighted Vehicle: River Rock Oral Surgery Best Walking Group: Kingman Middle School band
