All Starz win state championship

The All Starz Level 4 Gymnastics & Dance team showed Saturday they are the best in the state during the Fall State Championships at the Desert Devil Sportstech Gymnasium in Mesa.

The All Starz won the team title out of 25 teams.

"It is the first time that our team has ever won a state title," coach Brandee Gordon said.

"We had nine girls and six of them scored either 35 or 36 on the all-around .

We had no falls or breaks.

There were probably 400 or 500 people watching the meet.

It was exciting."

The All Starz finished the meet with a team score of 108.825.

Precision of Mesa came in second with 108.525.

Phoenix Gymnastic's Academy came in third with 106.25.

"Everyone of our kids were high up in the rankings," Gordon said.

"This meet was the biggest meet that we have ever had with 187 gymnasts.

It was just huge.

To even get a medal was a huge accomplishment."

In Level 4 (6- to 8-year-old) Sarah Tepfer won the Level 4 all-around champion with a score of 36.15.

Tepfer won the floor with a (9.375) and the beam (8.75).

She finished third on bars (9.325) and finished 10th on vault (8.7).

Tepfer received a judges' choice certificate for the best floor dance presentation out of 115 gymnasts in her session of the meet.

"Sarah was the first one to win the all-around for us and that was really neat to see," Gordon said.

In Level 4 (9- to 10-year-old) Hillary Extrom finished fifth on beam (8.875), sixth on vault (9.05) and floor (9.0).

She finished fourth in the all-around (35.875).

Kristen Haller won the floor (9.3), finished 10th on beam (8.725), 12th on bars (9.05) and sixth on all-around (35.65).

She received judges' choice for best floor dance presentation.

Tricia Hall tied for first on floor (9.3), finished fourth on beam (8.9) and ninth in all-around (35.25).

Jenny Orr finished eighth on beam (8.75) and eighth on floor (9.0).

Heather Order came in 10th in bars (9.1) and Katelyn Jacobsen came in 12th on vault (8.75).

In Level 4 (11-and-up) Natalie Van Vleet finished eighth on vault (9.0) and seventh on floor (8.925).

Van Vleet came in 11th in all-around (35.05).

Ashley House finished 13th on floor (8.85).

The Level 5 and Level 6 team will compete in the Fall Championship Saturday in Chandler.

"It should be fun and we are really excited to go back," Gordon said.

"We are looking to win some more."
