Inmate walks away from work detail

KINGMAN The Mohave County Sheriff's Office is seeking public assistance in locating a Mohave County Jail inmate who walked away from a work release detail Wednesday morning.

Justin Joseph Griffis, 18, of Kingman was assigned to work release at Mohave County Superior Court. The MCSO was informed about 10:48 a.m. that he had walked out of the courthouse and failed to return, MCSO spokeswoman Trish Carter said.

Griffis' escape resulted in a lockdown of Palo Christi School on Maple Street for about one hour, Carter said.

"Griffis became an inmate Aug. 1 on a felony charge of burglary and misdemeanor charge of theft," Carter said.

He now faces a felony escape charge, she added.

Griffis is described as a white male, 5-foot-10 inches tall and weighing 190 pounds. He has short red hair and brown eyes.

At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing standard trustee issue of a white shirt and blue pants.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Griffis is asked to call the MCSO at 753-0753 or toll-free at (800) 522-4312.
