MCSO increases focus on drivers
KINGMAN The Mohave County Sheriff's Office message for the holiday season is: if you're arrested for driving under the influence, don't cry in your beer. Sheriff's deputies will be increasing their focus on DUI traffic stops during the next few months to prevent accidents caused by drunk drivers.
"Mainly it's about safety," MCSO spokesperson Trish Carter said. "There's a lot more people on the roads and some certain weekends there's more people drinking."
Besides alcohol and drug-related incidents, deputies will be looking to see that seatbelts are being used and that drivers are generally traveling safe.
The MCSO began its DUI saturation project in Kingman on Thanksgiving Day. The program took place in Kingman on Thursday through Saturday and in Lake Havasu City on Sunday.
During that time, deputies made 50 total traffic stops; arrested three people for driving under the influence; made two arrests for possession of drug paraphernalia; issued three seatbelt citations, 22 total traffic citations and 29 other citations.
