Steven J. Silva

Steven J. "Tapia" Silva, 53, of Kingman went to be with his Lord on Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, after a long struggle with diabetes. He was born Dec. 18, 1953, in Kingman, the fifth child of nine to Henry and Minnie Silva.

Steve lived and grew up in Kingman; he had many challenges in his life as he was diagnosed with kidney cancer as a baby. Although having only one kidney, this hardship did not prevent him from playing Little League baseball, participating in Boy Scouts and being an altar boy at St. Mary's Church. He married and raised three children. He was involved in construction, where he was a member of the Carpenters Local Union No. 383.

Steve loved his three daughters, Stephanie Silva of Kingman, Danielle Casares of Nevada and Veronica Silva of North Carolina. He also loved his grandchildren, StevieMarie Carrillo of Kingman, Camille McIntyre of Little Elm, Texas, and Xavier Casares of Las Vegas, who looks just like Grandpa Steve.

Steve was a very strong man despite being small in stature. He struggled with his illness for many years, never complaining, never doubtful, never giving up hope that one day he would be healed. Steve loved baseball, football and horse racing. He also loved to cook. Some of his favorites included homemade tamales, green chile, strawberry banana cream pie and barbecued ribs.

Steve was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene Henry Silva; his mother, Minnie J. Silva; and one sister, Raychel Lemelin. He is survived by his father, Henry E Silva of Kingman; a brother, Gene (Dorothy) Silva of Las Vegas; five sisters, Yvonne (Joe) Waits-Robinson, Sandra (Elno) Roundy, Patsy (Lloyd) Van Wormer, Terry (Dave) Perry, all of Kingman, and Judy Ann Silva of Chandler; many nieces and nephews; and many life-long friends.

Services will be held Friday, Feb. 16, at Sutton Memorial Funeral Home. Viewing will be from 5 to 7 p.m. and Rosary from 6 to 7. A Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17, at St Mary's Catholic Church, Third and Spring Street.
