KINGMAN - At about 5:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Kingman Police investigated a two-vehicle accident in the 900 block of West Beale Street that caused a severe traffic backup onto westbound Interstate 40 for about an hour.

The investigation revealed that a 2006 Dodge pickup, driven by Jodene Marie Paananen, 30, of Golden Valley had exited Interstate 40 onto the Beale Street off ramp at a high rate of speed. Paananen's truck crossed both lanes of Beale Street and turned head-on into a 2000 Freightliner semi-truck that was eastbound on Beale Street.

The collision caused extensive damage to both vehicles. The semi leaked a large amount of diesel fuel onto the roadway.

The investigation and cleanup of the crash caused traffic to back up onto the westbound lanes of I-40 from the off ramp. No injuries were reported.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. The Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Arizona Department of Transportation assisted in traffic control during the investigation.

Paananen was subsequently arrested and booked into Mohave County Jail, charged with felony aggravated assault, felony criminal damage and misdemeanor driving under the influence.
