Prescott TV station is switching from 55 to 20
KINGMAN - For antenna viewers, channel 55 will become channel 20 within the next few days. According to Richard Howe, spokesperson for KAZT broadcast out of Prescott, the change reflects a change in bandwidth for the television station broadcasting in Kingman.
Howe said the changes are occurring because of upgrades in the way TV is broadcast. As broadcast stations move to digital, he said, it frees up bandwidth. As this is occurring, the Federal Communications Commission is gradually clearing off channels higher than 51 with plans to auction off spectrum to different providers.
Currently, KAZT is broadcasting on both channels during a slight transition period. Channel 55 will be shut off within the next few days. Howe said reports have said the signal is much stronger on the lower channel. The change will not affect cable or satellite subscribers, only those who use antennas to watch TV.
