Local riders ready for 'Flags Over the Dam'
KINGMAN - The Mother Road chapter of the Harley Owners Group (HOG) will participate for the fifth consecutive year in the "Flags Over the Dam" motorcycle ride Sunday.
The ninth annual ride over the dam should draw between 300 and 400 riders to Hoover Dam to commemorate Memorial Day.
Riders from Kingman will be gathering at Mother Road Harley Davidson to depart at 9 a.m.
Once at the dam, according to John Gunther, riders from around the area will congregate on the Arizona side of Hoover Dam and will be escorted across by Hoover Dam Police at 11 a.m. Arizona time.
Decorated with American flags, Gunther said the Mother Road chapter wants to show public support for the troops who have fought in the past and who are fighting now.
The ride will continue to be escorted out of the Hoover Dam jurisdiction, where either Park Rangers or Boulder City Police will lead the group to the Boulder City National Memorial Cemetery. A chaplain from one of the branches of the armed forces will perform a memorial service at the cemetery to honor the troops, accompanied by a Color Guard.
The Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Club started the event nine years ago.
