The local branch of the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division reopens today during normal business hours after being shut down for over a week.
Septic system failure triggered the closure early Oct. 3. MVD director Cydney DeModica said the breakdown backed up the septic system and caused flooding within the building at 3670 E. Andy Devine Ave. DeModica said she is uncertain what caused the failure.
"In addition to making repairs to the building as a result of the flooding, the septic system itself also had to be fixed," DeModica said.
Carpet was removed from the building and drywall was replaced. A section of floor removed to service the underground system was patched, as well.
Carpet will not be installed until as late as Monday, but DeModica said it was important that the office reopen as soon as possible.
"Our No. 1 goal was to get service back on track for the Kingman customers," she said.
During the closure, MVD staff was dispatched to work in the Division's offices located in Lake Havasu City and Bullhead City.
