Local landmark is restaurant, bar, arena, pizzeria combo

GOLDEN VALLEY - There's no need to hop a plane for authentic Chicago-style pizza. Peter Cimino has brought his family's homemade recipe to Golden Valley.

Cimino bought the Castle Rock Bar and Grill in May 2005 and last year started renovating the local landmark. It now boasts a full-service kitchen, pool tables, a bar, outdoor veranda seating and a rodeo arena for equestrian events.

"I moved from Freeport, Ill., to Las Vegas in 1995 and saw an opportunity to grow the business with the area that was growing," Cimino said.

In Illinois, the Cimino family has been in business for 37 years, with 45 Mama Cimino restaurants. In the West, there are stores in Las Vegas and Boulder City, Nev., and now Castle Rock, which advertises Mama Cimino's secret homemade recipes.

"We decided to keep the Castle Rock name," Cimino said. "Here, our sign says we serve pizza and pasta with Mama Cimino's homemade recipes. We're proud to say we have Chicago-style pizza right here in Golden Valley."

Castle Rock also has an equestrian arena and event center, and rents space to Castle Rock Realty.

The restaurant and bar seats 80 people, and a small conference room is available to groups of up to 10 people. The arena has room for 2,000 spectators now and will seat 4,500 when the seating is completed.

"We're planning rodeos, concerts, carnivals, receptions and other special events," Cimino said. "And we're planning a 3,500-square-foot banquet to the north of the building."

The total property measures 140 acres, with plenty of room for benefits, receptions and fund-raising events.

"There's so much we want to do here," Cimino said.

Cimino said he and his wife, Jocelyn, have been married for just a few months, and they enjoy driving down into Golden Valley and looking to the east to see the lights shining from his business on the hillside.

"We're creating a dynasty," he said with a smile. We have Wendy and Lawton Cavalliere as our partners in the real estate office. They're very genuine people and it's a real pleasure to work with them."

Wendy Cavalliere said the real estate firm has been in the top 10 area real estate companies for the past three years.

The restaurant sets just north of the Highway 68 and U.S. 93 junction. Golden Valley residents can gain access without driving onto 93 by taking Cross Ranch Road northeast from Chino Drive. Castle Rock now accepts credit and debit cards.
