Counterfeit bills in GV

GOLDEN VALLEY - 'Tis the season for false money.

The Mohave County Sheriff's Office is investigating a report of two counterfeit $50 bills passed Tuesday evening at a Golden Valley convenience store in the 5000 block of Highway 68.

At 11:35 p.m., an employee reported that two men gave her the two counterfeit $50 bills. The first bill was used to purchase gasoline and several items from the store. The employee then was asked if she could make change for the second counterfeit $50 bill. Both of the bills have the same serial number.

Both suspects left the area quickly after the employee realized the bills were counterfeit. She told them she was calling the Sheriff's Office.

The first suspect is a white male with average build. The second suspect is a Hispanic male who was wearing a black hooded jacket.

This is the second report of counterfeit money in the area in the past few weeks.

The Kingman Police Department received a report of a pair of counterfeit $20 bills from two Kingman businesses on Nov. 23 and 24. Both of those counterfeit $20 bills had the same serial number, too. It is unknown if the two cases are related.

Anyone with information on the Golden Valley case should call MCSO at (928) 753-0753 or Mohave Silent Witness at (928) 753-1234. Anyone with information on the counterfeit $20 bills should call KPD at (928) 753-2191.
