Valle Vista: Take Dad to all-you-can-eat barbecue for Father's Day

Bring that special man in your life to the Clubhouse for Father's Day for the all-you-can-eat barbecue from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be plenty to eat and beer specials. No reservations are required.

The recycle bin has been replaced here in Valle Vista and is now located at the first curve on Concho Drive. This is a co-mingle bin, but please do not put glass or regular trash in the bin. There is a bin for cardboard at the Clubhouse. Let's all do our part toward recycling.

Due to construction delays, the pool is not open yet, but hopefully, it will be very soon. It has been filled already, so we are getting close. I will let everyone know as soon as I have information on an opening date and how to get keys for the pool.

The B.L Shuffler and Sons and Desert Construction Open will be held here at Valle Vista on June 21 and 22. It is filling up fast, so be sure to sign up and pay your entry fee if you want to play in this tournament. You may do this over the phone, and credit cards will be accepted.

We are now less than a month away from our annual Fourth of July celebration. The day will include a golf tournament, pit barbecue, children's games, raffles and, of course, the fireworks display. The Fourth of July committee is looking for volunteers to help out with the various activities, so if you can help, please contact Sharon French at 757-5708 or Sylvia Dillow at 692-5610.

On June 3, the Men's Club had 22 members play to a format of 6-6-6. The results were: first place, Bill Slankard, Glen Woosley, Tom Groh and Mike Rose with a net 202; and second place, Don Mumford, Pete Schmitt, Len Druian and Bill McIntosh with a net 204. Closest to the pin went to Don Barnes on 2, Slankard on 7 and Mumford on 16.

On May 22, the Ladies Club hosted the Men's Club in their annual Jill and Jack Tournament. A continental breakfast was served, and the golfers were treated to lunch following play. The results were: first place, Virginia Weggeland, Mickey Lewis, Al Medina and Betty Martin; second place, Butch Lewis, Norma Birdsell, Shirley Tilley and Ray Tilley; third place, Julie Brackett, Gale VanDerSloot, Don Barnes and Diane Druian; and fourth place, Stan Mirovaliev, Mary Moist, Bobbie Hudgins and Len Druian.

On May 29, the Ladies Club played "Beat the Pro." After handicap was added, seven of the 12 ladies playing beat the pro. They were Weggeland, Brenda Stewart, Moist, Birdsell, Lewis, Jan Medina and Ursula Mirovaliev. In individual play, first place was won by Weggeland with a net 70; second place was won by Stewart with a net 70; third place was won by Moist with a net 73; and fourth place was won by Birdsell with an net 75. Greenies were won by Moist on 2 and Stewart on 11.

On June 5, the Ladies Club held its six months awards and the June Jubilee Scramble. First place was won by the team of Moist, Diane Druian, Mary Eubanks and Mary Walsh.

Second place was won by the team of Lewis, Anne Hopping, Shirley Tilley and Sue Arreola.

Third place was won by the team of Kathy Franklin, Betty Martin and Dee Lucero (The three-person team got an extra shot).

Greenies were won by Jan Medina on 2, Ursula Mirovaliev on 11 and Hopping on 16.

Our June Jubilee theme was Western. The ladies came out in a great array of Western attire. After golf, there was a wonderful luncheon and a "horse race" in the bar. Eubanks made all the arrangements and did a great job.
