Slaughter nominated for 'Sammy' FOP award
KINGMAN - The members of the Fraternal Order of Police Mohave Lodge 16 nominated long-standing President John Slaughter for the Charles "Sammy" Samuels Member of the Year award for 2008.
The nomination recognizes a long and active career in law enforcement, noted FOP involvement and service to the community.
The Sammy Award was adopted by the Arizona state lodge in 2004 and named for Deputy Charles L. "Sammy" Samuels for more than 60 years in law enforcement service, Maricopa's FOP lodge charter member, a past Arizona State FOP president and an officer of the national Lodge.
Slaughter has been in law enforcement for more than 32 years in California and Arizona. He is currently with the Mohave County Sheriff's Office. He has been an FOP member in good standing for 24 years and the lodge's president for the last 6 years.
