Local featured at conference
KINGMAN - From "People" magazine to the Northern Arizona Dietetic Association's Fall Conference, Kingman Regional Medical Center nutritionist and dietitian Dino Pierce is popping up everywhere.
Pierce is the featured speaker at the Northern Arizona Dietetic Association's Fall Conference on Oct. 17.
Pierce will present "Exercising for Diabetes Prevention and Treatment" to his peers at the conference running from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Mohave County Building, 700 W. Beale St.
"I was honored because they weren't asking me to speak to an audience but to an audience of my peers," Pierce said.
The conference, featuring six speakers, will provide six continuing profession education hours. The speakers include Mary Ellen Rivero, Stacey Hitesman, Pierce, Laura Wittke, Dr. Keith R. Martin and Dr. Kay Hongu.
This isn't the first conference Pierce served as a speaker at a public gathering. In March he presented at the International Society of Sports Nutrition at the Arnold Classic in Ohio.
"It's a passion of mine," Pierce said. "It's what I've known to do."
Pierce serves as program coordinator for KRMC's outpatient diabetes education program and as registered dietitian for its Wellness and Rehabilitation Center.
In his many roles, Pierce helped Gena Hill of Ethel, Miss., lose weight as part of the "Half Their Size: The People Magazine Weight Loss Challenge." Hill was featured on the cover of the Sept. 26 magazine, along with the accompanying ABC special, which aired on Sept. 23.
With Pierce as her nutritionist, Hill took second place in the challenge. While they never met in person for the challenge, Pierce said Hill drove six hours to meet him during a presentation in Louisiana.
Pierce works with 100 to 200 people year round in a similar capacity, passing along his knowledge as a sports nutritionist, certified fitness trainer, registered dietitian, certified diabetes educator and certified insulin pump trainer.
