Letter: Sidewalks are made for walking

I would like to find out who people can complain to about sidewalks in the city. I had a major stroke about three years ago and am just now getting my balance back when walking with a brace and a cane.

I try to walk every day on a sidewalk near my home and I notice that a few people in this town seem to use sidewalks as a parking lot and park on top and even block handicap accesses that go from the sidewalk down to the street.

Let me tell you that hopefully you will never experience surviving a stroke. It's hard enough to walk on a level floor, let alone a sidewalk when you're paralyzed on one side of your body. If this might be you, please park on the street; leave access ramps clear.

And by the way, it would be nice to move trashcans off the sidewalks, too! It's already hard enough to maneuver around the vehicles.
