A local transient was arrested Thursday on charges of aggravated assault of a police officer after slapping an officer who was trying to detain him. Police were called to the Jack in the Box on Andy Devine Avenue shortly before 5 p.m. after receiving reports of a disturbed individual threatening patrons and employees. A responding officer spotted the suspect in front of the neighboring Arby's and tried to arrest the man, who had taken a "karate fighting stance," according to Sgt. Mike Godfrey. The suspect began resisting arrest, at which point the officer used his Tazer, Godfrey said. The Tazer didn't stop the suspect, who actually pulled the Tazer leads from his chest, at which point he slapped the officer. The suspect uses several aliases but told police he was Martin Hart, the name given to him when he landed on planet Earth.
