Bank robbery suspect jailed
Cops say Wagenhals hit Kingman, Golden Valley branches in June
KINGMAN - A man suspected of attempted robbery at a bank inside a Kingman grocery store was arrested Wednesday.
Police say 21-year-old Brian Jay Wagenhals of Payson admitted to attempting to rob a Wells Fargo Bank inside Bashas' June 4. He also admitted to robbing the National Bank of Arizona in Golden Valley where he made off with more than $600 later that day, police said.
A teller in the first robbery in the grocery store hesitated and Wagenhals left without any money.
Wagenhals was arrested at his girlfriend's home in the 3200 block of Packard Avenue.
Trish Carter with the Mohave County Sheriff's Office said the arrest was the result of a joint investigation between the Sheriff's Office and the Kingman Police Department.
The agencies received several tips after the case was publicized in June. It was ultimately an anonymous tip that led police to the girlfriend's house.
Wagenhals was arrested for felony armed robbery by MCSO and felony attempt to commit armed robbery by KPD. He was transported to the Mohave County Sheriff's Office where he was interviewed and admitted to his involvement, police said.
Wagenhals carried a knife that had an eagle's head at the handle during the robberies but did not threaten anyone in either incident.
