Video: The Hualapai Tribe held a lecture Friday night at the Multi-Purpose Building in Peach Springs, Ariz., titled "People of the Tall Pines: Hualapai Traditional Identities, Wikahme Origin Stories and Coyote Stories." Several people, including tribe elders, spoke during the event, telling Hualapai stories or singing songs. Telling stories was an important way of passing knowledge and codes of conduct to future generations. Here, Hualapai storyteller Cheryl Beecher talks about story-telling traditions, including the time of year that stories could be told. The occasional popping sound in the background is the crackling of a fire in a fireplace behind her. Another lecture is planned sometime in the spring.
