Keepers of the Wild Nature Park released a Swainson's hawk back into the wild Saturday afternoon on the park grounds located northeast of Kingman in Valentine. Jonathan Kraft and Tina Matejek of Keepers found the injured hawk alongside Route 66 about 10 months ago with a gunshot wound to the wing. The hawk was brought to Keepers, where it recovered but needed more space to build its flying strength. The hawk was transferred to Adobe Mountain Wildlife Center in Phoenix, where it regained full strength, and was brought back up to Keepers. Above, Jonathan Kraft gets ready to release the hawk while Keepers employees and Adobe Mountain workers watch. At left, the hawk wasted no time exiting the box.
