Military Honors at Sea
The guided-missile cruiser USS Chancellorsville commemorated the lives of eight former sailors and two Navy family members by conducting a burial at sea May 28. The ceremony occurred on a cool morning on the ship's fantail. An 18-person honor guard carried out the solemn duty of committing former shipmates to the deep, a time-honored naval tradition for military veterans who desired to be buried at sea. A seven-man rifle squad fired a 21-gun salute, paying homage for the sacrifices of each sailor and family member. SONAR Technician Third Class Matthew Rohler of Kingman was a member of the color guard that handled flag duties.
