Military: Rodrigo Franco & Others
Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Rodrigo Franco, a native of Kingman and a 2006 graduate of Kingman High School, is currently deployed aboard the USS Farragut presently supporting ongoing counter-piracy operations in the Gulf of Aden. Franco is an electrician's mate, responsible for maintaining the electrical components onboard the ship. His wife Chelsey currently resides in Tucson.
Army Pvt. Jayson A. Harkness has graduated from the Basic Field Artillery Cannon Crewmember Advanced Individual Training course at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. The course is designed to train service members to maintain, prepare and load ammunition for firing; operate and perform operator maintenance on prime movers, self-propelled Howitzers and ammunition vehicles; store, maintain and distribute ammunition to using units as a member of battery or battalion ammunition section; perform crew maintenance and participate in organizational maintenance of weapons and related equipment; and establish and maintain radio and wire communications. He is the son of Jose and Jackie D. Gochoco of Kingman. Harkness is a 2007 graduate of Kingman High School.
Tanisha A. Karn has joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry Program. The program gives young men and women the opportunity to delay entering active duty for up to one year. The enlistment gives the new soldier the option to learn a new skill, travel and become eligible to receive as much as $50,000 toward a college education. After completion of basic military training, soldiers receive advanced individual training in their career job specialty prior to being assigned to their first permanent duty station. Karn will report to Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C., in June to complete basic military training, followed by the explosive ordnance disposal specialist Advanced Individual Training course at Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, Ala. She is the daughter of Lawana Karn of Kingman and Kelly Karn of Clovis, N.M.
Spencer J. Nielsen has joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry Program. Nielsen reported to Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga., in February to complete basic military training, followed by the motor transport operator Advanced Individual Training course at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo. He is the son of Phyllis Nielsen of Golden Valley and James Nielsen of Three Rivers, Calif. The recruit is a 2005 graduate of South High School, Bakersfield, Calif.
Federico N. Orozco has joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry Program. Orozco reported to Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga., in February to complete basic military training, followed by the infantryman Advanced Individual Training course. He is the son of Rachel and Federico Orozco of Kingman. The recruit is a 2007 graduate of Kingman High School.
