Mountain lion illegally killed in Sierra Verde Ranch
KINGMAN - The Arizona Game and Fish Department has charged an individual with illegally killing a mountain lion.
William Strauss, 56, of Seligman was cited for take of big game without a tag and possession of unlawfully taken big game. He was also warned for false reporting to a law enforcement agency.
The investigation began after Strauss purchased a mountain lion tag at the Game and Fish Kingman office on Oct. 29. During the course of the investigation, law enforcement personnel gathered information that led them to believe the lion had been killed prior to purchasing the tag.
Strauss, who has pleaded not guilty, claims he killed the mountain lion after purchasing the tag.
Strauss could lose hunting privileges and faces up to $1,500 in civil assessment from the Game and Fish Commission along with court-imposed fines.
