Game and Fish releases results for spring hunts
Tags still remain for many hunts and will be available Nov. 29
PHOENIX - The Arizona Game and Fish Department recently announced the drawing results for the 2011 spring hunts for turkey, javelina, buffalo and bear.
The more than 30,000 applicants can obtain results at www.azgfd.gov/draw or by calling (602) 942-3000 (option 2). Applicants will need to enter their Department ID number (typically a Social Security number) and their date of birth.
Game and Fish officials said that hunt permit-tags will be mailed out to successful applicants no later than Dec. 3. Unsuccessful or rejected applicants will have their refund, less application fees, mailed out by Nov. 26. For those individuals who were unsuccessful in the drawing, had their application rejected for errors or just forgot to submit an application before the drawing deadline, there are plenty of remaining tags available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Remaining tags include more than 11,000 javelina tags, more than 600 turkey tags and just over 80 bear tags.
For junior hunters 17 and under, there are more than 600 tags available for these special kids hunting opportunities. For a detailed list of leftover permits, visit www.azgfd.gov/draw or any department office.
Leftover hunt permit-tags can be obtained two ways. Beginning Monday, Nov. 29, at 8 a.m., Game and Fish will accept applications by mail only in the same way as the regular drawing process. Starting on Monday, Dec. 6, at 8 a.m., leftover tags are also available for purchase in person from any of the seven Arizona Game and Fish Department offices. A list of office locations is available at www.azgfd.gov/offices.
However, there are more than 100 antlered whitetail deer tags still remaining. This general hunt is from Nov. 26-Dec. 2 in unit 36B. Juniors can still pick up fall javelina tags good from Nov. 19-25. There are three hunting units to choose from including 34A/B and 35A/B combination; 37A/B; and one tag for unit 39 (which closes Nov. 28). Find out details at www.azgfd.gov/draw under fall drawing results.
For those who qualify, there are military hunts available. For additional information on Camp Navajo, call (928) 773-3306.
The next big-game drawing is for elk and pronghorn antelope. Game and Fish anticipates accepting applications starting in mid-December, with the deadline to apply typically the second Tuesday of February 2011, pending commission approval at its December meeting in Phoenix.
